I am first and foremost a painter – having graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 2005. The main focus of my work is in this medium, however I also make three dimensional work, I write poetry and songs.
My work is concerned with the struggle of the individual to get to grips with personal identity. My material is often semi-autobiographical stemming from my own cultural and social influences, but the themes are universal. I am interested in the inward dynamic on the person of the forces which come to play during the course of a so-called “up-bringing”. But my research also covers exploration of the triangular dynamics of feelings, thoughts and behaviour. The pull between good versus evil within the individual and within the social environment is also a feature of my work.
I have pursued other themes, working intuitively as a response to various stimuli on creative writing courses where I have worked under the tuition of both Donny O’Rourke and Liz Lochhead in Scotland and of the writer Cristophe Fiat during a term spent studying at Quimper School of Art in France. I have also studied Artists’ book making with Jenny Smith.
